What are we doing during a movement park, Matt? Aren’t we a bit aged for this?

Absolutely not! It keeps me fit. I’ve skated given we was 12 years aged and it’s a large partial of my life.

What tricks can we do?

Well, I’ve been famous to switch blunt on a ramp. This will meant zero to you! we also like a backside lipslide…

Sounds interesting! OK, so we haven’t seen we for a while. What’s been going on?

Well, we got into a flattering bad place a few years ago [Matt was dependant to ethanol and medication drugs], so there’s been a lot of liberation going on, that is what my new manuscript is mostly formed on.

I’m not unapproachable of a state we let myself get into, yet I’m unapproachable we was means to ask for help, and it’s something I’ve poured into a album.

It’s about recovery, yet it’s also about a dim times and medicating to feel nothing.

Which strain off a manuscript means a many to you?

Time To Be Alive, since of a sentiment. Life hurts – it’s unfair, it’s cruel, bad things occur to good people. You’ve only got to understanding with it. Hallelujah is about Valium, and it sounds like a adore song, yet it unequivocally isn’t.

Are we teetotal these days?

No. we was solemn for 19 months after we came out [of rehab], yet we didn’t feel like it was me. I’m a hedy [hedonistic] chairman – we don’t find yourself in The Priory if we splash immature tea. we do concede myself to drink, yet we only have to be unequivocally careful. Recovery is a day-to-day thing.  If something bad happened to me now, we could find myself in a terrible place again, yet we unequivocally wish not. At slightest we have a believe of what we can do now.

You won The X Factor in 2010 – how did we go from achieving a ultimate dream to being in such a dim place?

The X Factor isn’t a normal thing for anyone to go through, and my year in sole was mental since so many people watched it.

I’d worked for years to get a record understanding and afterwards we got one, and even yet my manuscript went platinum, a tag didn’t wish to do another one. They had other things on their mind, like One Direction – and we substantially would have finished a same!

I wasn’t sour about it yet it did cut me to pieces. It was a f**ked-up situation. That joined with a attribute relapse didn’t leave me in a good place.

Do we wish we hadn’t been on a uncover a same year as 1D?

Not during all. My manuscript sole good and they went off and cowed a world! That’s what came from that year, and that’s cool.

Of all a 1D lads, whose new song do we like best?

I desired what Harry did. we consider it was a dauntless pierce to not even try to transition from a boy-band sound and only do what he wanted to do.

Are we in a good place now?

Yes, definitely. we met my partner Amber [27, a plan manager] a integrate of years ago and life is good.

We’re holding things really steady. Well, she is! She’s really sensible.
